Fiberglass Pools
There are basically three types of inground pools you can install: vinyl, concrete, and the focus of this page, fiberglass.
What is a fiberglass pool
A fiberglass pool is premade in a factory from a mold and then brought in as one piece, ready to be installed. It is made of interwoven glass threads and contains multiple layers of protection and strength.
Why would I want one?
They are a strong and durable pool material, lasting for years and years.
They require much less maintenance than other types of pools. They do not have to be replastered like concrete or relined like vinyl. All they require is a new gel coating every 15 years. This coating acts as a protection against water and chemical damage as well as algae and debris. That means you don’t have to brush your pool down every week!
Because they’re made offsite, fiberglass pools can be installed much more quickly than other types of pools. We’re looking at one month versus 3-6 months.
They hold heat very well. Because they’re great insulators, they use a fraction of energy to stay heated compared to other types of pools.
Fiberglass pools are very compatible with salt, if you prefer saltwater maintenance to chlorine.

Why would I not want one?
Because they are made from a mold, you can’t customize the size, shape, and depth like you would with other types of pools. Also, because the pool is in one piece when it arrives, there are installation limitations when considering how and where to place it.
What about the cost?
When comparing costs of different types of pools, it’s important to remember that there are initial costs and lifetime costs and other factors at play. The average upfront price of fiberglass pools is $40,000 (including pool installation).
